LANDE loan agreements do not provide for a direct extension of the original loan term. However, borrowers may contact LANDE to discuss refinancing options when there are justified reasons to adjust their repayment timeline. These reasons are not necessarily related to financial difficulties and may also arise from new business opportunities or investment plans. For example, refinancing may be considered when: - Business expansion: The borrower has an opportunity to invest in business growth, such as purchasing additional agricultural land or equipment. - Strategic financial planning: The borrower prefers to allocate available funds to business investments rather than repay the outstanding principal at the originally scheduled date. - External challenges: The borrower has experienced a financially difficult season due to circumstances beyond their control, such as adverse weather conditions. - Other justified circumstances: There are reasonable grounds for adjusting the repayment timeline. In such cases, LANDE may consider issuing a new loan to refinance the existing one. ### How does LANDE evaluate refinancing requests? Each request is assessed individually, following the same creditworthiness and risk assessment standards applied to new loans. LANDE considers several factors, including: - The borrower's current financial situation and repayment capacity. - The reasons for requesting refinancing, including potential business opportunities. - The borrower's previous payment history and overall cooperation with LANDE. - The borrower's communication and willingness to meet their obligations. - A clear, evidence-based repayment plan, including expected income and payment dates. Whenever possible, LANDE also seeks to strengthen its position by requesting additional collateral or guarantors, reducing the loan-to-value (LTV) ratio, or requiring the borrower to repay part of the outstanding principal. Refinancing is not automatically approved and is subject to a thorough assessment. ### What happens to the investor's existing investment? When refinancing is approved, a new loan project is created to repay the existing loan. In some cases, the new loan may also include additional financing for the borrower. For investors in the original project: - The existing investment is repaid rather than automatically transferred to the new loan. - Investors receive the outstanding principal and interest in accordance with the original loan terms. - The original project is closed once the repayment is completed. - The repayment may take place earlier than the originally scheduled maturity date. ### Do investors continue earning interest? Yes. Investors continue earning interest under the original loan terms until the existing loan is repaid. ### Can investors participate in the new loan? Yes. The refinanced loan is published as a separate project with its own terms and repayment schedule. Investors can choose to invest in the new project, but their existing investment is not automatically transferred or reinvested.
